Awesome! I really like it…I am really begining to understand the process and concerns surrounding reverse type and under what situations it can work. Thanks again for the page and for Ed’s blog…it’s all very, very helpful to use newbies.

Not wild about the “of” script font, but hands-down it’s a terrific page.

Since the photos on this page are knocked out, it appears Kristin had control of the black background color build – critical to making the type readable by keeping K dominant and CMY to a minimum or eliminated altogether. On the rare occasion I run reverse type over a dark or black area of a photo, I choose a sans-serif font and I use Maximum GCR in Photoshop to get as close to 100% black (and little or no CMY) as possible. This makes for cleaner type and registration problems are minimized.

  3. Very striking. I love it. Just wondering…How did it do in print?

It was very readable. You could probably read it from two feet away (LOL) because I made the type into Franklin Gothic Demi (which is a sans font) with a point size of 12 on a 13.3 lead. I was very happy when it rolled off the press.

  4. Wow. Fantastic page. Simply fantastic. The red and black really pops.
A question: How long did it take to complete?

    • Kristin Coker

It didn’t take that long to put together after I knew what I wanted to do. TIME magazine had just come out with their Person of the Year and I thought it would be cool to make The Times and Democrat’s Player of the Year similar. Most of the time creating this came when I had to submit my idea to our paper’s attorney to make sure that it wasn’t too similar to TIME magazine. I also conferred with Ed, just to get his take. In all, I worked on it off and on for about a day and a half though.
