Braggin’ on: The Mountaineer

I RECEIVED EXCITING NEWS TODAY from Gail Krabben at The Mountaineer in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. The Mountaineer took home the lion’s share of awards in its circulation group in the Alberta Weekly Newspaper Assn. annual contest.

“Hello Ed,

We have great news! Our redesign project has been very successful and The Mountaineer received several awards over the weekend at the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Assn.’s conference.

We took first place in our circulation category for: Best All-round Newspaper, Best Front Page, Best Sports Page and Best Editorial Page. We also scored the highest aggregate total (857 out of 1000) in the province, beating out all 61 newspapers who competed in Alberta’s Better Newspapers Competition (some of which are SND members).

Glen and I are truly grateful for your time and expertise! You took the time to understand our product and showed us how to make it so much better. Plus, you gave us the tools to ensure we could design a better newspaper week after week.

What a difference a year makes! We’re certainly looking forward to the results of the national competition.

Thank you again for your great work. We hope all is well with you, and we hope to meet again!

Best wishes,

Gail Krabben

PS – A huge thank you, also, to Ken Blum for your valuable insights, and for recommending Ed Henninger to us!”

Thanks to Gail for sharing this good news. And thanks to her, Publisher Glen Mazza, Editor Stu Salkeld and others there for creating a strong success from the redesign. I am happy to have been a part of the effort.
