LAURI SHILLINGS, Design Dept. Supervisor at the Journal Review in Crawfordsville, IN, sends along this special page. Lauri wrote: “I’ll be brave.”
“I’m sending this cover of our Spring 4 page bridal section as an example of the various small special sections that we normally put out as a local newspaper.
“I have tried to create a headline that speaks not only of the obvious reference to weddings (I DO) but also to the content of the article (second hand stores).
“Staffing is at an all time premium here—so we have one or two local ‘anchor’ articles from our news staff, (featured on cover) the remainder of copy is comprised of ‘canned’ articles from editorial services that we receive.
“My background is as an advertising designer. As the economy tightens, we are forced to make new efficiencies in our business, and I’m creating special sections design for editorial—just as they are asked to contribute advertiser influenced articles to these sections.”
FROM ED: I like the headline thinking, though the difference between the two sizes is somewhat jarring. Might’ve worked better if the “want to save” had been a subhead. I also prefer to go for red anytime over magenta. Why the box around the top caption and foto and not the smaller foto/caption?
